Roses are red, to your dog they're khaki
Roses are red, but to your dog they're khaki. Pick an animal, add a name and make a Valentine card with a little poem that is true to how that animal sees colour. Save it for a story, a post or a message. Nothing you type leaves your device.
Make your card
Roses are red,
to a dog they're khaki.
Violets look blue,
and you're stuck with me.

A simulation made from published eye studies. Not what the animal feels.
Do dogs really see roses as khaki?
Red looks like a dull khaki to a dog. Purple looks blue to a dog: the red in it disappears. Dogs see mostly blues and yellows, so a red rose loses its red.
Why do the poems change with the animal?
Each poem only says what is true for that animal's eyes: khaki roses for animals that mix up red and green, ultraviolet for animals that see it, and grey for animals that see no colour at all.
Is my card private?
Yes. The card is drawn in your browser. The name is never sent anywhere, and nothing is kept after you close the page.
